Ultrabunny

Back in 1988 a guy called Bobby Bunny along with Malcolm Tent founded a band called The BunnyBrains, this band played punk rock together for about 16 years. During these years they had a very productive career, with 33 records by 2001. a very interesting thins about the BunnyBrains is the fact that in the same year (2001) the band had 65 members. The band deviated from what both founders had in mind when they first began with this band, and that made them realize that a most needed change was soon to come. As a matter of fact, in 2002 the two original members Bobby Bunny (guitar/vocals and electronics) and Malcolm Tent (bass and vocals) decided to start fresh by scouting Pete Beest (drums). They decided to call themselves BunnyBrains 88 in order to differentiate themselves from the rest of the band that was still playing under their original name The BunnyBrains. However, after a while they decided to call themselves. This is one of the reasons why their history is sometimes hard to understand and a little confusing. If you asked Ultrabunny, they will probably tell you that Ultrabunny has been in business since 1988, even when they did not come up with that name until 14 years later. Where there two BunnyBrains bands at one point? Yes, during their separation, both sides did not want to let go of the original name. Is the BunnyBrain band that continued playing with that name the original band? If you ask The Ultrabunny band founders they will answer with a definite no.

Once we have clarified some parts of the history of The Ultrabunny band, we can now easily talk about The Ultrabunny phenomena and what they are all about. The Ultrabunny band defines their sound as extreme post-punk-no-wave-&70srock-glam-psych-noise. With such an interesting combination, we can not help but to feel challenged to take a listen and find out if they really deliver. In terms of production, Volume Merchants  is a record that attracts the attention of fans in the sense that it comes with an Ultrabunny kind of recommendation: the two sides are to be listened with a break between them. The Ultrabunny band actually has a different name for each side and the music in them. And they go accordingly with the songs included in both sides. Being side A “Volume Merchants”, a more “organized” compilation of songs than their more improvised, bizarre side B Unsafe at any Age.

The best way of describing The Ultrabunny&;s music is by saying they are pretty much a straight forward assault of noise. As part of the acid rock, acid punk, noise rock influences, The Ultrabunny band is fully confrontational in terms of its sound and political views. Our recommendation is to definitely check them out and draw your own conclusions.
